The courses we follow...
At Key Stage 4...
GCSE Business Studies
This is a course delivered over two years. The course is run in conjunction with the Edexcel exam board. The course studies key business aspects such as:
- External Environment- Why businesses exist
- Business Organisation - eg sole traders, Public Limited Companies
- Marketing - Price, place, promotion and product
- Finance - Profit/Loss account, balance sheet and cash flow
- Production - Methods of making goods and different costs
- People in Business - Motivating workers, training, recruitment and selection
- Aiding and controlling Business - Consumer Laws, government grants
The course has 3 parts:
- A multiple choice exam in Year 10 (25%)
- A Controlled Assessment based on a business of your choice in Year 11 (25%)
- An exam of multiple choice and written response questions at the end of Year 11 (25%)
Business BTec
This is a vocational qualification worth 2 GCSE’s grade C or above. Attainment can range between a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
This course is 100% coursework and is new to the curriculum offered here at Streetly.
The Coursework is divided into the four following units that will be completed over Years 10 and 11:
Unit 1- Business Purposes
Unit 2- Business Organisation
Unit 17- Starting a small Business
Unit 22- Visual display and merchandising in retail
At Key Stage 5...
AS and A2 levels are studied over the two years in Sixth form. The department boasts some of the best results in the academy and tries to offer a mix of units which cover a broad spectrum in both Business and Economics. For both subjects there are 4 units spread over the 2 years and there is high quality independent study along with guided support.
