Our aim is to give you the confidence to achieve and overachieve in your lessons. Geography is an exciting and practical subject which stretches your horizons. It has the advantage of being classified as a Science and Arts subject so links into a whole range of other subjects.
Geography is recognised by employers as a subject that prepares you for the world of work and by universities as a Sciences and Arts subject which produces young people who can think out of the box. Welcome to your world, pick Geography.
The courses we follow...

At Key Stage 3...
- An environment to achieve your best is what you can expect;
- 2006 95% achieved Level 5 and above in Y9
- 2007 95% achieved Level 5 and above in Y9

The topics you will cover are:

Year 7

  1. Map skills.
  2. Atlas skills and research on a country of your choice.
  3. Settlement.
  4. West Midlands region and the expansion of Birmingham Airport.
  5. Rivers and flooding.
  6. Dovedale fieldwork.

Year 8

  1. Weather and Climate
  2. European Union and Italian farming.
  3. Football the global industry.
  4. Brazil
  5. The Geography of crime.
  6. Population and migration.

Year 9

  1. Natural hazards – volcanoes and earthquakes. You research a hazard of your choice.
  2. Global issues and their impact on our planet. Group work on Antarctica.
  3. Coastal features and management.
  4. Tourism in the UK and Kenya.
  5. Local fieldwork – how should Streetly be redeveloped?
  6. Introduction to industry GCSE which still covers the National Curriculum.



At Key Stage 4...
- An environment to achieve your best is what you can expect;
- 2006 GCSE result 71% (16% ahead of target)
- 2007 GCSE result

The topics you will cover are;

Paper 1 – 40%

  1. Map and geographical skills.
  2. Tectonics – volcanoes and earthquakes.
  3. Coastal features, processes and management.
  4. River features, processes and flooding management.

Paper 2 – 35%

  1. Industry.
  2. Settlement.
  3. Managing resources and tourism.

Coursework – 25%
Investigation of a town centre and local shopping street.
1 piece of coursework based on the field trip.

At Key Stage 5...

Geography is one of the most popular A Levels in the school. The units you will cover are:

AS Level

Unit 1 – Physical and Human Geography

  1. Population Change
  2. Energy Issues
  3. Rivers Floods and Management
  4. Cold Environments

Unit 2 – Geographical Skills

  1. Skills include Fieldwork, cartographical and statistical skills.

A2 Level

Unit 4

  1. Atmospheric changes and wet/dry climate in Africa.
  2. Plate Tectonics.
  3. Global warming.
  4. Responses to hazards.
  5. Earthquakes/volcanoes
  6. Hurricanes.
  7. AIDS.
  8. Burglary in urban areas.
  9. Multi-hazards in LA.
  10. Soil and Vegetation.
  11. Conflict over a resource.

Unit 5 – Synoptic Paper

  1. Working with the advance information booklet to answer questions in the examination.

Unit 6

  1. Fieldwork based examination questions.
  2. Questions on examples of other student’s fieldwork.
  3. There is no coursework.
