  • Graphical skills
  • Geographical enquiry skills
  • ICT skills
  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS) skills

This unit covers the geographical skills that are essential for all GCSE Geography students. They will gain an understanding of these skills and expertise in how to apply them to geographical investigations. Cartographic, graphical and graphical enquiry, ICT and GIS skills are covered.

This unit also covers the major challenges that our planet is currently facing: climate change and sustainability. This is a key topic for anyone living in the 21st century and it is vital that students are well informed and able to make their own decisions on this subject.

Unit 2: The Natural Environment: 1 Hour Exam
This unit covers the physical geography aspects of the natural world and the issues related to the environment.

    • Coastal Landscapes
    • A Wasteful World

Unit 3: The Human Environment: 1 Hour Exam
This unit covers the human geography aspects of the human world and the issues related to the people living on our planet.

  • Population Change.
  • A Tourist's World.

Unit 4: Investigating Geography ("Controlled Assessment.")
For this unit students need to complete a fieldwork investigation and report. They must complete one of the tasks provided by Edexcel on a different theme/task each year.
The fieldwork investigation and report is split into different areas:

  • purpose of investigation
  • methods of collecting data
  • methods of presenting data
  • analysis and conclusions
  • evaluation
  • planning and organisation.

All fieldwork investigations and reports should contain the same type of information. This will explain how students planned, carried out, analysed and evaluated their investigation. The quality of written communication (QWC) will be important as how students present, order and explain their work links directly to how well it is understood by the reader.
